Mellea linen is thicker (260gsm) than the Cinnamon Dust or Garden Slate (185gsm). The colour is a gorgeous pinky/lilac grey. More photos coming soon. Made in small batches. This year we don't have any pinafores in L-XL sorry. We found the largest size wasn't popular enough in this style.

Umiform's versatile Apron Pinafore, made from 100% European Linen in a workwear weight. Mellea is 260gsm soft laundered linen in a subtle shade of mushroom grey, with a slight hint of pink. This slubby linen is made from special tow yarn which gives the cloth its nice raw textured appearance. It is the irregular character of the fibre that lends a lovely natural charm to this pure linen.

This beautiful quality fabric is produced in small batches in Eastern Europe where there is a strong heritage of spinning and weaving linen fabric. Made by a mill who uses electricity supplied solely from renewable energy sources and OEKO Tex certified.

A wardrobe staple, designed to be worn everyday. Great for winter layered with a merino longsleeve top and leggings. Equally lovely in the summer over a summer blouse or tank. Excellent for breastfeeding mothers with pull across access for discrete easy feeds wherever you happen to be. Big pockets and three buttonholes on each strap so you can adjust where it sits on your waist/hips to suit your body shape.

Named after a dear customer who is in every way the mama we imagined when we designed this dress :)

    More about linen:

Linen is naturally stain resistant, does not pil, and is moth repellent. It is easy to wash and is a very strong fibre.

It is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, hypo allergenic and thermoregulating, it will also absorb up 20% moisture before feeling damp.

Flax is a strong plant best grown in northern Europe. It needs little or no fertilisers and due to the local climate, little extra water. It doesn’t really require pesticides either as it can grow in poor quality soil. The Advisory Commission Report to the European Parliament stated that flax cultivation has positive effects on eco-system diversity as it allows for an “environmental pause”. One hectare of flax can retain 3.7 tonnes of CO2. Every part of the plant is used, what isn’t used to produce linen can be used to make linseed oil, paper, cattle feed or even soap.

Linen is therefore almost naturally organic. It is completely biodegradable, recyclable and due to its natural absorbency, it requires less dye than cotton. Linen therefore scores high on the ecological chart.
