Disana is a family-owned German brand creating natural, organic clothing for babies and children, with a deep commitment to health, wellbeing, and sustainability from the first moments Earthside. Founded in 1982, Disana has remained true to its original vision: to produce beautiful, functional garments that are completely free from harmful substances and made in harmony with nature.
At the heart of Disana is a belief that what touches a child’s skin matters. Using only certified organic merino wool, organic cotton and linen, every fibre is carefully selected to ensure purity, breathability and comfort. These natural materials work in balance with the body, helping to regulate temperature, wick moisture, and support a health and wellbeing from birth through childhood.
All Disana garments are produced in Germany, with a rare level of in-house manufacturing that spans from yarn to finished product. This hands-on approach ensures exceptional quality, transparency, and minimal environmental impact, while supporting local craftsmanship and jobs. By keeping production close and controlled, Disana significantly reduces transport distances in the production of their garments and remains deeply connected to every stage of the process.
Sustainability for Disana is a long-standing philosophy. As one of the early pioneers of organic textiles, the brand helped shape standards such as GOTS and IVN BEST, and continues to meet the highest ecological and social certifications. Every detail (from fibres and dyes to buttons and trims) is considered with care for both people and planet.
Designed for childhood, Disana's garments are made to be lived in. They are timeless, durable and repairable and made to be worn daily, handed down, and cherished over time. Disana's focus on longevity helps encourage a slower, more conscious approach to clothing that supports both environmental responsibility and family life.
Disana shares many values with Engel Natur, another long-established German pioneer of natural fibre clothing. Both brands are united in their commitment to certified organic materials, responsible production, and clothing that supports the natural needs of the body. While Engel is particularly renowned for its beautifully soft wool and wool/silk layers worn close to the skin, Disana is especially loved for its durable knitwear and outerwear designed for everyday childhood adventures.
For Woollykins, Disana has always been more than just a brand. All three of our boys have all used the Disana nappy system from birth and have been dressed in Disana's clothing until age 12. Disana have been a true inspiration and shaped the philosophy behind Woollykins and our belief that clothing for babies and children should support health, comfort and wellbeing from birth through every stage of growing up.
