Soft, durable, and colour-fast chunky 16-ply wool, in 50g balls. This yarn is equally suited to knitting, crocheting, weaving or any craft item and will felt well. All Golden Fleece wool comes from non-mulesed sheep, grown and raised on Australian farms with a commitment to sustainability, the health of humanity, animal welfare and the care of the environment. Following the scouring and washing of the wool using eco-friendly detergents, Golden Fleece is spun and dyed using traditional skills and supporting local business in regional Australia.
This wool is not finished with Superwash, which means no environmentally harming chlorine washes or polymer coverings are used to alter the natural durability and finish.
Please note, the ply does not indicate yarn thickness. The best way to determine yarn thickness is not by ply (which usually refers to the construction of the yarn) but by comparing the weight category (lace, fingering, chunky etc), the gauge (stitches per 10cm/4inch) and the meterage per 50/100g.

What is the process used to clean raw fleece?
Before spinning and dying, raw fleece must travel the globe to be scoured and washed to remove excess grease, dirt and plant matter.
We used to be able to do this here in Australia, but now ALL Australian wool undergoes this process overseas - mostly in China with little regulation.
Golden Fleece have gone to great lengths to ensure the process of 'scouring' or 'washing' the raw fleece meet their high environmental standards. In order to meet those standards Golden Fleece leaves our Australian farms to travel to Egypt, where it is scoured and washed with certified eco-friendly detergents to the highest standards in the world.
No chemicals, no harm to the environment or water-ways, and beautiful soft wool for you to enjoy!
