It's here! Our 100% organic Indigo dyed pure wool Traditional Fisherman's Gansey! An heirloom piece to treasure forever.
We've been carefully recreating this 18th-century Cornish classic - the traditional Fisherman's Gansey - dyed a rich indigo blue using only natural, plant-based dyes, just as it would have been centuries ago. This unisex style features a slightly longer body and sleeves in the Large/XL size. Modelled in marine blue alpaca from a past collection. Modelled photos of our 2025 edition, made from 100% wool and dyed with natural indigo, are coming soon.
Our Unisex Fisherman's Gansey is a take on the traditional Cornish Gansey with stitch motifs based on various traditional patterns from 19th century Cornwall as collated by Mary Wright in the 70s for her historical portrait of the industrious contract knitters supplying local fishermen with warm and practical wool clothing through the 18th and 19th century. We've pieced together various stitch motifs to create our take on the traditional Gansey in 100% Italian wool yarn naturally dyed with certified organic indigo, just like the original ganseys would have been before the introduction of synthetic dyes.
The yarn for this incredible piece was naturally dyed in Italy by Tintoria di Quaregna - a natural yarn company founded in 1948. They create organically dyed yarns using raw plant material. Their yarns are dyed without chemicals, extracts, dye powders or additives. Their beautiful 100% organic certified Indigo dyed wool yarn is made using non-mulesed NATIVA extra fine merino wool RWS certified.
