  • Pure Wool Yarn for DIY Knitted Wool Nappy Cover (100g)

    5 items left

100% wool fleecy "flocky" yarn for knitting nappy covers and other natural baby clothes. There is nothing quite like picking up the knitting needles and making your own baby garments, a desire that nesting mothers everywhere can relate to. This is the very pattern for the first nappy cover I made for my son, now 12. Ruskovilla Finland now provide the perfect yarn to create an effective and very adorable nappy cover for your baby.

One ball of 100g of yarn in a pure 100% wool off-white soft flocky yarn will create one nappy cover. This yarn has no twist and is completely undyed and unprocessed so it retains all the natural properties that make wool such an effective material for nappy covers: absorbent, with a high lanolin content, soft and breathable.

The package also includes instructions for making several different nappy pants as well as a beanie and booties. The instructions are in Finnish but an English Translation provided by Woollykins for the nappy covers. Google translate App on your phone can be used to translate the other patterns if desired.

    Size: 100g

    Colour:natural/off-white

Usage: 100g of flocky yarn makes 1 x nappy cover. A beanie and booties require 50g each. Recommended knitting needle size 4-5. This wool will felt readily so can be used for fulling your knitting also.

Lanolise: You can use the Disana Lanolin or Sonett Wool Conditioner to lanolise your nappy cover after knitting.

Pure wool keeps you warm even when damp, neutralizes odours and doesn’t require frequent washing. Wool with no synthetics mixed in is also a fire-resistant material that returns to nature at the end of its life cycle.

    About Woollen Nappy Covers:

Woollen Nappy pants are used together with cotton cloth nappies that are sufficiently absorbent. Woollen nappy pants don't need to be washed at every nappy change. If they are not soiled, then it is enough just to air them. If the nappy pants are soiled, rinse off by spraying and wash them with gentle wool soap. Stains can be removed with Sonnet/Disana's Gall Soap stain remover.

Sheep's wool contains lanolin, a fatty substance which chemically binds urine acids and converts them to lanolin soap. That is why any smell of urine disappears from the woollen pants on airing. With continued washing however the lanolin is lost. For this reason, woollen nappy pants should be retreated with lanolin form time to time (after about every second or third washing). Please be patient with new nappy pants - the wool begins its work slowly, so on the first days of use some damp may penetrate through.

Note! If a woollen garment is not in continuous use, it should be kept in a sealed bag - the less desirable lovers of wool (moths, beetles etc.) are so fond of it that they might otherwise eat it!

Care: Air frequently - wash seldom - protect against moths
