These limited-edition, truly special socks are hand knitted and hand spun in Mongolia by Enkhe, the mum of our friend Khorloo. Enkhe spins and knits these gorgeous socks by hand in her home, using sheep and camel wool from animals raised by nomadic herders in Mongolia. We're so lucky to have this connection to Mongolia that we can share with you and your babies.
Gorgeously thick and warm in stunning handspun yarns, there is no elastic in these socks at all, so to keep them on wear them with booties or baby slippers.
Sizes: 16-18 (0-4m), 18-19 (4-9m), 20-21 (9-18m), 22-23 (18m-3y) (as these socks are handmade, sizes may vary slightly)
Colours (assorted patterns): Ecru (sheep), Light Grey (sheep), Dark Brown (sheep), Beige (camel), Camel (camel)
100% Organic undyed sheep and camel wool
Although the wool used cannot be officially certified, the animals that produce it are raised in a manner that is both organic and sustainable. There are no fences in Mongolia, animals live relatively cruelty-free. They have free range in the wilderness all their lives unless there is a snowstorm and they huddle in around the pen.
This wool is not mass-produced. The sheep aren't raised for their wool, so wool production is marginal, and the amount available is dependent on variable conditions. Nomadic people often hand shear the animals rather than use mechanised shearing tools so they can leave some wool on the sheep to keep the animal safe from cold snaps in spring.
Camel wool is the ultimate cosy winter fibre. These socks are luxuriously soft and warm and the camel hair is seen here in its natural colour undyed and unbleached. It is a high quality fibre that is smooth and soft and comes from the soft undercoat of the camel. Camel fibre has especially good temperature regulating properties making it a great fibre for socks.
